Step 1
Invite the client to have a seat in your station chair. Allow her to get comfortable, talk about her hair requests, give her your suggestions and then put the cape on her. Comfort is key because the more at ease she is, the more likely she is to sit properly, which means the following steps are a piece of cake for you.
-
Step 2
Check that the client is sitting all the way back in the chair. Her back should be against the seat back. Some clients tend to sit on the edge of the seat or not quite all the way back, which causes them to lean, uncomfortably, to rest their back for the cut.
-
Step 3
Ask your client to uncross her legs. Crossed legs cause the body to lean to one direction or the other. Keep the legs flat against the seat and the feet rested on the footrest to ensure a balanced seat, level shoulders and centered head. Curly hair tends to have a mind of its own, so extra steps to ensure the most level playing field are important.
-
Step 4
Double-check that her arms are also uncrossed. Crossed arms can create the same imbalance as crossed legs. Have her rest her arms on the arm rests.
-
Step 5
Section off the back, bottom layer of curly hair and pin the rest of the hair up.
-
Step 6
Tilt the client's head forward with the chin down, close to the chest. You're now set for a successful cut.
