Curly hair has to be controlled at all times during a hairstyling. During the cutting of the second layer of curly hair the unruly nature of curly hair must be handled with care. Establish a managed pattern on the upper layer of curly hair in order to cut the second layer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lift up a section of hair to act as the foundation or guide for the second layer. Pull this section of hair to the side and follow it along as you cut.

  2. Step 2

Cut across the entire section of hair. The section of curly hair should be held in place with the comb while cutting.

  3. Step 3

Move over to the opposite side of the head. Repeat the previous action in order to symmetrically cut the second layer.

  4. Step 4

Hold the customer's head so that the scalp is easily visible and use the scalp and upper layer as a guide to continue cutting the second layer. The second layer should be cut so it blends together with the upper layer.

  5. Step 5

Continue cutting the second layer. Make certain the second layer is both symmetrical and straight. Curly hair can be managed if the layers are cut symmetrically and balanced with the shape of the customer's head and the hair's natural curliness.
