How to Cut the Front Curly Hair Layer Shorter

The length of curly hair at the front of the head should be shorter than that at the back. Unruly curly hair will fall into the eyes or across the face if it is not cut shorter. The shorter layers across the front of curly hair will also accentuate the eyes and other facial features.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Move around to the front of the customer. It's easier to judge the correct cutting angles if you start cutting from the front.

  2. Step 2

Start with the crown of the head. The crown is the highest point of the head and gives you a perfect spot from which to properly gage the amount to shorten the curly hair.

  3. Step 3

Pull the hair out and cut a section of hair to the desired length. Use that section as a guide for the rest of the hairstyle.

  4. Step 4

Straighten out any knots you encounter. Pull through the knots and cut the hair shorter, thus removing the knot and eliminating the chance for its return.

  5. Step 5

Continue cutting the hair shorter while paying special attention to the look from the front. Before finishing the front, move to one side and look across the brow to make sure the curly hairs are cut in the proper line and will lay as you intended.
