Poser is a 3D Figure Design and Animation software package. Each model contains morphs that artists use to design characters and the Face Room provides the tools for artists to create individual morphs that make their characters more realistic or unusual. Artists either use photographs or the Face Shaping Tool's 22 parameter dials to create morphs for their characters.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Use Photographs to Create a Morph Target

  1. Step 1

Open Poser and add a G2 Model to your scene. Change your viewpoint to the face camera. Select the face tab to enter the Face Room.

  2. Step 2

Load two photos into photo lineup section. Click the photo model's right eye and left corner lip to align the front image. Selecting the right earlobe and the front of the chin aligns the side photo.

  3. Step 3

Click and drag the nodes in the face sculpting section to align photo to the digital model's head. Proceed to the next section to finish creating a morph target.

  4. Use the Face Shaping Tool to Create Morph Targets

  5. Step 1

Enter the caricature amount for the character. Use the caricature dials to exaggerate head and facial features.

  6. Step 2

Design the character's face. Artists enter values for brow ridge, cheekbones, cheeks, chin, eyes, face, forehead, jaw, mouth, lips, nose, nose bridge, nose sellion, nose region, temples and ears. Each face has several parameter dials.

  7. Step 3

Choose the character's ethnicity, age and gender. Use several camera angles to review the character.

  8. Step 4

Click "spawn morph target" and name the morph target. This creates a new parameter dial. A value of "1.0" will apply all of your photographic and face sculpting changes to the character. Lesser values create a blend between the original model's face and the new character face.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not enter values greater than 0.7 for ethnicity parameter dials. Values beyond this could become offensive.
