Poser is a 3D Figure Design and Animation software package that artists use to create realistic walk animations for their characters. Using the Walk Designer, artists design walks that imitate anything from a John Wayne swagger to a Marilyn Monroe sway. The Animation Control and Graph are used to make final walk path adjustments.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open Poser and load your character from the Figures Library. Change to the Top Camera. Choose "create a walk path" from the Figure menu. Click and drag the nodes to design the character's walk. Left click on the path to add more control nodes. Move the beginning of the path to your character's feet.

  2. Step 2

Select "Walk Designer" from the Windows menu. Load the character's model base into the designer. This reduces jerky or irregular movements. Adjust the walk style blend parameter dials. Dial options include Cool, Elderly, Power, Neutral, Run, Sexy and Sneaky. The total blend percentages should not exceed 100 percent

  3. Step 3

Adjust Tweak parameter dials. These dials control how different body parts move during the walk. Artists can change how the character moves. The possibilities include head bounce, arm or hip swing and leg lift. Select "Done" when blends and tweaks are completed.

  4. Step 4

Choose "follow path," "always complete last step" and "OK" in Apply Walk window. Choose "loop interpolation" from the Animation window. Review the walk. Stop the walk at the beginning of any irregular movements.

  5. Step 5

Use the scrubber to scroll the walk animation backwards. Stop 2 to 3 frames before the irregular movement begins. Select "edit keyframes" from the Animation Controls. Delete the key frame where the irregular movement begins. The Poser software recalculates the walk smoothing out the animation.
