Washing your car and making your tires shine gives your automobile that new-car appearance. Besides making the tires look nice, tire shining products also protect the tire walls from cracking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a tire shining product from your local automotive supply store. Manufacturers refer to it as tire shine, tire gloss or tire dressing. Companies such as Armor All and Meguiar's manufacture these types of products.

  2. Step 2

Wash your entire car before you shine your tires. This isn't necessary, but it looks odd to have shiny tires on an otherwise dirty car. Scrub your tires to remove dirt and mud.

  3. Step 3

Spray the tire thoroughly with the tire shine. Make sure to spray the tire wall only and not the tread, which would put you at risk for skidding on the road. If you get tire shine on the rims, wipe it off immediately.

  4. Step 4

Use a cloth to spread the tire shine evenly over the tire walls. Wipe the shine in the same direction around the tire to keep a uniform appearance. Use a clean cloth to touch up the rims if you overspray.

Tips & Warnings
  • Leave your car parked until the shining product dries. Dirt and dust will be attracted to and stick to your tires if you drive your car with wet shine, and the dirt will stay stuck until you wash your car again.
  • Tire shining products make your tires look brand-new. Always make the tires shine when you try to sell your car.
