It is important for the owner of a motorcycle to be familiar with how it works. You can save money by learning how to perform certain repairs and maintenance on your own. Knowing how to remove the carburetor can save you hundreds of dollars over using a repair shop.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Loosen the throttle and idle cable. You should be able to access the fuel line. Pull it out and rock the carburetor back and forth.

  2. Step 2

Move the carburetor off the manifold. Avoid banging it against the engine.

  3. Step 3

Remember where the choke cable was because you need to feed it through the bracket. The bracket is sometimes there to guide the fuel line. Note the VOES switch there.

  4. Step 4

Take the cable up, over and out of the top of the bracket, and then clip it out. Be careful when handling the cables because you can easily kink them. This can happen when the end of the cable is riding outside the bracket and you can't move the cam back to get the cable out.

  5. Step 5

Pull the idle cable down to pull the choke cable out. Once the choke cable is out, go in and disconnect the vacuum hose, which is connected to the back of the VOES switch and vacuum-operated petcock. Disconnect that to remove the carburetor from the motorcycle.
