Maintaining your motorcycle engine is important both to the life of the motorcycle and your safety as a rider. Routine maintenance should include checking and replacing the manifold as needed. After this is done, you will need to reinstall the backplate.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lock Tite
  • Ratchet
  • Socket
  1. Step 1

Finish replacing the manifold on the motorcycle, checking your work as you go. For obvious safety reasons, you want to make sure everything is properly installed before riding the motorcycle.

  2. Step 2

Line up the backplate and put the washer on. Slide the backplate onto the studs you removed from it during disassembly. Once you have the backplate on the studs, you can start your breather bolts. Tighten them all down finger tight before tightening them down all the way.

  3. Step 3

Use blue Lock Tite when tightening the bolts down. This will prevent them from running back out, which could destroy your engine. It could also cause considerable hazard if you are riding at the time the bolts come loose.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the bolts with a ratchet and the appropriate-sized socket. Be careful not to tighten them down too tight, as they are going through plastic. Tightening them excessively could cause the plastic to crack or break off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the washer is in good condition, or use a new washer. Make sure it stays in place while installing the backplate.
