Things You'll Need:
- Pliers
- 3/8ths wrench
-
Step 1
Notice where the throttle lines and idle lines are. They connect to the carburetor in the engine with hose clamps. These are often crimped clamps rather than the screw clamps you see in cars because of the limited space. Use a pair of pliers to cut the clamp, then wiggle it free, being careful to avoid hitting anything else.
-
Step 2
Discard the crimped clamp. You may use this same style of clamp again if you have a crimper; otherwise, installing a screw-style clamp is perfectly acceptable, as long as it is out of the way.
-
Step 3
Roll back the sleeves on the throttle and idle lines where they connect to the handlebars. Do this carefully to avoid damaging the sleeves. Use a 3/8ths wrench to break loose the jam nuts and loosen them to create slack in the lines.
-
Step 4
Continue loosening the lines with your fingers until they are loose enough to fit over the cam. You can stop and test this a couple of times if necessary. Once you know what you are doing, you will be able to tell when they are loose enough.
