The eyes of a sculpted eagle must capture the attention of the viewer. An eagle's eyes must be sculpted with precision to create the illusion of life. If properly sculpted, the eagle's eyes make the sculpture seem as if it is about to soar into the sky.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sculpt the brow above the eagle's eyes. The line above the eye socket deepens the impact of the eagle's eyes and frames the view of the predator's head. The brow gives the sculpture an expressive look.

  2. Step 2

Work the clay in around the lower area in front of the eye to develop what would be the cheek on a human face. This should be sculpted so as to make a smooth transition between the eyes and the upper beak.

  3. Step 3

Pull the clay into two pieces about the thickness and length of your little finger and roll these pieces of clay into two balls that fit into the eye sockets.

  4. Step 4

Smooth the clay balls into the eye sockets. The eyeballs should protrude from the sockets.

  5. Step 5

Work the clay gently around the eye socket in a sweeping motion away from the eye socket. This will be sculpted in fine detail later when it's time to finalize the eagle's head.
