How to Insert the Ball End of the Guitar String

Inserting the ball end of the string is the first step to putting new strings on your guitar. On most guitars, bridge pins hold the ball end of the guitar strings in place. If your guitar does not have bridge pins, thread the flat end of the strings through the bridge holes. Try not to bend the strings as you insert the ball ends.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the bridge pin that corresponds to the first string you will insert. If you start with the low E string, with the neck of the guitar pointing right, you will remove the bridge pin closest to you.

  2. Step 2

Place the ball end of the corresponding string above or slightly into the bridge pin hole.

  3. Step 3

Use the bridge pin to push the string into the hole.

  4. Step 4

Pull up on the string as you push the bridge pin into the hole. Once you push the bridge pin in completely, it should stay in place when you pull up on the string.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for each string.
