Turntables are necessities for any good DJ. They allow the DJ to play music, "scratch" the records or make the music play at different speeds. Learning how to properly set up the equipment is one of your top priorities. This includes plugging in all the components and using the right cables.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 turntables
  • Mixer
  • Mats
  • Cables
  • Needle
  1. Step 1

Place the turntables on a flat surface, with the mixer in between the two. You can also use slip proof mats if your area is uneven, but most DJs don't use them.

  2. Step 2

Lay a rubber mat on top of the turntable followed by a plastic mat and the regular mat. These mats are shaped exactly like a record and come standard with the turntables.

  3. Step 3

Match the colored ends of the cables with the different slots or outputs on the back of the mixer. Attach the cables to their matching slots.

  4. Step 4

Plug the power cord into your electrical outlet and press the power button. Make sure the turntables light up before pressing the power button to ensure that electricity is flowing to the equipment.

  5. Step 5

Push the start button underneath the power button to start your record spinning. If you need the music to stop, press the start button once again to stop the record.

  6. Step 6

Press the light button on the right hand side of the turntable if you need a little more light to see the equipment. This little button comes in handy in darkened spaces.

  7. Step 7

Insert the needle into the turntable. The music won't play unless the needle is touching the record.
