If your garden path is looking old and worn, simply cleaning the stones can make a big difference in the way it looks. This can save you a lot of money when it comes to updating your landscape. Pressure washing is the easiest way to clean your garden path and spruce up your back yard..

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic to cover nearby outlets
  • Safety goggles
  • Pressure washer
  • Power source
  • Water source
  • Chemicals to clean stones
  1. Step 1

Cover any electrical outlets in the area with tape to protect them from the water spray.

  2. Step 2

Assess the area that you will be spraying. You need to create a pathway to follow when you spray. Consider any slopes that would cause the water to run down a particular direction. You will want to start at the top of the slope.

  3. Step 3

Prepare your power washer for use. Attach the garden hose and allow the water to run through the pressure washer for a minute before turning it on. Attach the correct nozzle to the power washer, usually about a 25 degree nozzle. Put on your safety goggles.

  4. Step 4

Wet the stones thoroughly by spraying them with the power washer at a 45 degree angle to the stones. If you spray straight onto the stones, it will drive the dirt deeper in to the stones.

  5. Step 5

Add chemicals to your pressure washer and apply it to the stones following the same path. You may choose a degreaser to help remove older stains. Only use the chemicals that have been approved for the power washer. Allow the chemicals to soak for about fifteen minutes.

  6. Step 6

Agitate the chemicals with water. Apply quick short bursts of spray to the stones in a random pattern. This will cause the chemicals to suds up, to help remove dirt and grime

  7. Step 7

Rinse the chemicals from the stone completely. Start at the top of the path that you created and work down. Do not allow the stone to dry before you rinse off the chemical. You may need to quickly spray an area if you have not gotten to it yet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Follow the pattern of the stone as you spray. If there is a groove of the stone spray along the groove. This will help to remove dirt more effectively.
  • If your patio stones are not that dirty, you may consider only using water to clean them.
  • Never spray the power washer at a person or an animal. It can cause serious injury.
  • Always wear safety goggles when using a pressure washer.
