Traditional cigar box snatches ask the juggler to snatch the boxes from below. However, a quicker and more challenging way is do an upward snatch. Here, you'll be pulling the middle box around to the side while all three are in mid air. It sounds a lot simpler than it is to perform. However, this snatch is more visually stimulating.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Three juggler's cigar boxes
  1. Step 1

Hold three cigar boxes end to end like a train between your hands about waist height. Be sure you are comfortable with the weight and physics of the boxes before moving forward with this trick.

  2. Step 2

Bend your knees slightly, and keep your back straight. Release this stance and lift upward. Give the boxes a little lift as well. This will provide them with some momentum to hang. This gives you more time to perform the upward snatch.

  3. Step 3

Let go of the box in your dominant hand, but keep holding the one in your less-dominant hand. Keep an eye on the two free-floating boxes in order to keep this third box level with them. Ideally, they will remain horizontal so you can perform this trick.

  4. Step 4

Move your free hand quickly over the boxes and grasp the middle box. Pull this box out of the formation and swing it to your dominant side. Now the middle box is the outside box and the outside the middle.

  5. Step 5

Position the dominant side box and the non-dominant side so you can clamp the three together tightly.

  6. Step 6

Practice this trick several times until you are able to quickly and evenly snatch the boxes and move them into position. Don't be dissuaded by dropping the boxes, as this is a complicated trick and it will take some time to learn the rhythm necessary to pull off this trick.
