Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Let the torso be dictated by the head. Say you have a cool and funky cartoon character head. You should draw a torso that compliments it. If the head looks informal, add an informally clothed torso. If the opposite is true, add a formally clothed torso.

  2. Step 2

Do not let the size of the head dictate the size the torso. If you wish, you can have large heads on smaller torsos for a caricaturist effect. That decision is yours as the creator of the cartoon character.

  3. Step 3

Start the torso from the top by adding a upwardly curving line for the neck of the garment for your cartoon character. For a t-shirt, add two lines that curve downward for the shoulders.

  4. Step 4

Draw two straight lines that will become the bottom of the t-shirt sleeves for your cartoon character as you add the torso. Add two more upward lines that will form the inside of the cartoon character's sleeves.

  5. Step 5

Add two straight lines on either side of the cartoon character to make the body of the t-shirt, thus adding the sides of the torso. Finish the bottom of the torso by adding the bottom of the t-shirt—a straight line the connects the tow downward lines.

  6. Step 6

Create detail for the cartoon character's torso by adding stripes, buttons or whatever you like. Let your imagination be your guide.
