Friends and family sometimes play washers during barbecues and other functions. Building a washer game is easy and inexpensive, and it'll provide lots of fun. The game of washers, or pitching washers, involves two people taking turns throwing washers toward one hole, while standing by the other one. The object of the game is to try to land the washer inside the hole, or as close to it as possible.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Saw
  • Screws
  • Drill
  • Four 14 to 16 inch pieces of 2-by-4 inch boards with ends cut at a 45-degree angle
  • Piece of strong plywood to fit
  • Strong glue
  • Two pieces of 4 inch diameter PVC pipe
  • L brackets (optional)
  • Dirt
  • Shovel (if placing pipe in your yard)
  • Eight 3½ inch washers
  1. Step 1

Decide whether you want to build washer boxes or simply place the washer holes in the ground out in your yard. If you build washer boxes, you can transport the game. On the other hand, putting the holes in your yard is much easier.

  2. Step 2

Make two washer boxes if you want them. This is the easiest and least expensive method to do this. Attach four long boards with screws to make a square. Attach a piece of plywood on the bottom to make a box. Use glue on all wood joints to make it stronger. Repeat to make a second box.

  3. Step 3

Cut the pipe so that when placed in the center of the box, the top of the pipe is level with the top of the box. Attach the pipe in the exact center of each box. You can use either very strong glue, or some L brackets and screws. Repeat for the second box.

  4. Step 4

Fill the rest of the boxes with dirt so that it is level with the tops of the pipe and sides of the boxes. Pack the dirt tightly. Place the boxes 15 to 25 feet apart to play.

  5. Step 5

Dig holes in your yard 15 to 25 feet apart for the pipe if you would rather have the washer game a permanent part of your yard. Make sure the tops of the pipes are level with the ground. You will be able to walk and mow right over them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Opinions differ on how wide the pipes and washers should be. However, just make sure the washers are about ½ inch smaller in width than the pipes and you'll be fine.
  • If you were playing in a washer tournament or something similar, measurements would probably have to be more exact. However, this is just for fun, so if the box is an inch smaller or larger than regulation size, it's fine.
