Step 1
Establish the proper base before making any move in tae kwon do. The power of any punch comes from the strength in the legs. Stand with your legs approximately shoulder width apart and slightly bent. Also, be sure to stay active by standing on the balls of the feet.
-
Step 2
Stand at an angle with your dominant side back. For instance, if you are right-handed, stand with the left shoulder forward and the right shoulder back.
-
Step 3
Start the fake jab with the dominant hand. Extend the balled fist of the dominant hand just enough to get the opponent's attention. The opponent needs to believe that the jab is an authentic move and react accordingly.
-
Step 4
Wait until the opponent reacts to the fake jab and brings his hand up to protect his face against the jab. The position of the opponent's hand needs to be to the front of his face.
-
Step 5
Extend the back of the fisted hand with the palm of the hand turned inwardly. The target of the strike is at the side of an opponent's head with the front of the clinched fist. Step and strike quickly and then move back to a defensive position. Make certain to time the action correctly, so that the opponent does not have time to react. Also, bring the other hand up to your face in case the back fist punch misses and the opponent attacks accordingly.
