How to Dress to Attend a Rodeo

The rodeo is coming to town and you want to look your best. That isn't so difficult, and the best piece of advice is to dress like you are a rodeo fan, but not like someone who is actually riding in the rodeo. Those who attend a rodeo don't need the chaps or the gloves, but the rest is cowboy or cowgirl fun.

1. Get a good cowboy hat to dress like a rodeo fan. Women and men wear them for their cowboy and cowgirl roots, and the best advice is to buy and wear the one that feels good and makes you look good when you attend a rodeo. The rodeo fashion leans more towards the cowboy hats that have the sides rolled up, but you should still follow your heart.

2. Get a good-fitting pair of jeans. These should be cowboy jeans that run long in the leg to cover the heels of your boots. They should also be a complementary color of denim for the rest of your outfit. Your taste will have to guide you here.

3. Put on a big ol' belt buckle. You'll have to wear a belt that can support the really big ones, which means that it has to be thick and made of leather. The bigger and gaudier the belt buckle the better, and you can even get your surname or initials on it in rhinestones.

4. Wear a cowboy shirt that has plaid or stripes. These tend to be long sleeved, but if it is extremely hot this time of year, you can get away with a short sleeved version of the same thing. Ladies can wear pretty much anything as long as it matches the rest of her ensemble. The best bet for women is a good-looking button-up shirt.

5. Find the most comfortable and classiest-looking cowboy boots you can get. The most important aspect of the boot is the hide used and the look of the toe, as that is the part of the cowboy boot that most would see when you attend a rodeo. Women have cowboy boots, too, and the same criteria for dress boots goes.

6. Keep in mind your comfort from head to toe. Whether it is the hat or the shoes that bother you, they'll become a thorn in your hide by the end of a long rodeo day. If it is possible, walk around in your rodeo attire before you leave.
