How to Make a Groom's Cake
Many engaged couples want both a wedding cake and a groom's cake. This popular southern tradition is finding its way into wedding receptions around the country. While the wedding cake celebrates the bride and her special day, the groom's cake, typically adorned with fruit, brings in the personality and tastes of the groom.

1
Talk with the engaged couple to find out what the groom is interested in and what makes up his personality.
-
2
Decide what flavor of cake the groom wants. The outside of the groom's cake is always chocolate.

3
Determine with the couple what their particular cake symbolizes. Do they want a traditional groom's cake using fruit for decorations, or do they want a cake that really reflects the personality of the groom?
-
4
Ask the engaged couple if they would like the two cakes to match in shape and size. The groom's cake is typically smaller than the wedding cake and can be any shape. But for an extremely traditional wedding, the groom's cake is the same shape and design as the wedding cake.

5
Plan the set up of both cakes and how the couple wants them displayed. Some couples choose to display the cakes side by side, and others prefer the two cakes be in different locations at the reception.

Get creative with your groom's cake designs. Offer sports team themes, outdoor activity themes, educational themes and favorite hobbies as possible cake styles for the groom.

Tips & Warnings
Use fresh fruit along with molded fruit if the couple chooses the traditional groom's cake.
A nice idea is to have the groom's mother make the groom's cake herself as a special contribution to the reception. If the groom's mother isn't a baker, let her be responsible for working with the cake designer to come up with the perfect groom's cake.
