How to See Five Cool Things at Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico passes through the Guadalupe Mountains in the Chihuahuan dessert and is filled not only with a variety of cacti, but of course 113 limestone caves. Some of the largest of all cave formations in North America, you are bound to see far more than five cool things during your trip to the park.

1. Begin your trip to Carlsbad Caverns in the main section, a self-guided tour which begins at the Big Room. The Big Room is just one of many cool things to see and is a great way to begin your tour. It is the largest cavern in the entire park and is wheelchair accessible.
2. Book a tour with a guide to see King's Palace, a sight you certainly do not want to miss. King's palace contains more stalagmites and stalactites than any other part of the caverns, and is most definitely high up on the list of cool things to see at Carlsbad Caverns.
3. Get a glimpse at the Giant Dome, an impressive limestone formation which is 62 feet high and 16 feet wide. Often said to resemble the Leaning Tower of Pisa, this is one of many cool things you'll have to see to believe.
4. Put the pit on your list of cool things to see at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. While called the Bottomless Pit, this somewhat frightening must-see is actually 140 astonishing feet deep.
5. Be adventurous and see the White Giant, one of the most spectacular yet difficult to see sites in the park. This four-hour guided hike includes small spaces, slippery surfaces and guarantees you'll be getting dirty; however, for the adventurous and fit, it's well worth it.
