Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Clean the base of your knife where your new handle will go. Many times rust and dirt will build up under the handle. Removing this unwanted material will ensure your handle will remain glued tight after you replace it.
Step2
Wrap the blade in a durable tape so the clamp will not damage it and so you will not cut yourself while handling the knife in this untraditional manner.
Step3
Place the blade in a vice or use a clamp to secure the knife to a table. Either way, the area where you will secure the new handle should hang out, free of obstruction.
Step4
Apply the epoxy glue to the base of the knife and inside the slot, if your knife is a one-piece model. If your knife is the kind with rivets, the handle most likely came in two pieces. In this case, glue around the base and on the side of the rivets. Also, apply the glue in the openings of this handle.
Step5
Slide the glued handle on the knife and wipe off any excess epoxy, which may have pushed up around the blade for the one-piece handle. If you are using a two-piece handle, connect both pieces securely and wipe off any excess glue.
Step6
Use a small clamp to tighten both pieces securely around the base.
Step7
Follow the epoxy instructions as to how long your knife should sit before it is completely dried.
