How to Be a Groupie

When you want to take your adoration for a music artist, actor or sports celebrity to the next level, you may aspire to be a groupie. There are some tactics you can use to express your appreciation. They can help you learn more about a celebrity, and may even bring you face to face with your idol.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what type of groupie you want to be. One type may be happy learning everything there is to know about a band and attending every concert possible; another wants to meet and "hang out" with the band. The latter type aims to become a part of the celebrity's life and travel with the entourage.

    • 2

Collect memorabilia, compact discs, movies or photos featuring your idol. Find as many magazine articles, books and online tidbits to get more information on the celebrity. Wear t-shirts and other clothing that featuring the celebrity's image to identify yourself as a groupie.

    • 3

Talk and write about the band, athlete or celebrity constantly. Start a blog dedicated to your idol, post on forums at the official website, or contribute interesting tidbits to radio stations, entertainment blogs and television shows. Your expertise may help you become a known "source" about your idol.

    • 4

Find a schedule of a band's tour stops, an athlete's game schedule or an actor's list of interviews and premieres so you can get a chance to talk to your idol in person. If you aspire to be a groupie for an up-and-coming band, you may even offer to help them promote upcoming appearances.

    • 5

Attempt to get to know the band's roadies, their business associates or various employees at concert venues that may be able to get you a backstage pass to a show. If you do get one, arrive early and ask if you can watch the sound check and meet the band. If you make a good impression, they might invite you to the after party after the show.

Tips & Warnings

  • If a celebrity or band does begin to recognize you as a groupie, always be respectful of their time and personal space. If you're pushy, inebriated or rude to their families, their handlers may ask you to keep your distance.
