Flowers add beauty, color and texture to any space. You can create a living sculpture by designing your flower arrangement with some planning. Different flower arrangements draw attention to different aspects of your flowers. Choose a vertical flower arrangement to showcase long, focal flowers.
Things You'll Need
- Tall vase
- Florist's foam
Choose a tall vase to place your flower arrangement in. Since the focus of this flower arrangement is height rather than width, your vase needs to be wide enough to add only a few surrounding flowers to your focal plant.
Cut a piece of florist's foam just wide enough to fit inside your vase. Place the foam in the bottom of the vase.
Select the focal point of your arrangement. This is the piece around which you will center the rest of the arrangement. You can choose a flower, a bud or even a tall piece of foliage. In general, you want the height of your focal flower to be about one and a half times the height of the container.
Insert your focal flower into the vase, securing it in the florist's foam. Select and insert two or three flowers around it. These flowers should each be slightly different heights, so that there are graduated heights around your focal flower.
Add greens and filler flowers around the center flowers. Cut these so that they rest lower in the vase than the center flowers. Cut one flower so that it rests just above the rim of the vase, providing balance to the tallest point in the arrangement.
Tips & Warnings
- Don't overfill your bouquet. You want the overall impression to be tall and narrow, not wide and bushy.
