If regular fantasy football is not challenging enough for you, take it to the next level and play in an individual defensive player fantasy league or IDP league. Members of this league must be able to evaluate the prowess of various defensive players as well as offensive players.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide where to host the fantasy football league if you are starting a new league. Fantasy football leagues as complicated as this are easier to manage when you establish the league through an online fantasy football web site (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Ascertain or establish how the defensive players score points for your fantasy football team. For instance, some leagues award points for sacks or interceptions, while others value tackles for each defensive player. Establish how many defenders each team is required to start. Some leagues only start two or three players while others employ an entire defensive unit.

  3. Step 3

Research the defensive players values and rank them according to the leagues scoring system. Find out what type of defense each team employs. A player on an attacking defense is more valuable than a player on a passive defensive team.

  4. Step 4

Conduct a draft for all of the players available on offense and defense. Don't draft a defensive player before the 5th or 6th round unless the leagues scoring system is weighted towards defense, which is highly unusual. Offensive players score many more points than defensive players.

  5. Step 5

Choose which defensive players will start for you each week and play the game.

Tips & Warnings
  • Research, evaluate, draft and start the offensive players just as you would in any other fantasy football league.
