Enrolling in organized competitions is a way to show off your gingerbread creations while gathering ideas from other contestants. It's a sort of convention for gingerbread houses. Here is how to enter one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Get the entry forms filled out as soon as they come out. Start looking for gingerbread entry forms as early as January 1. The Grove Park Inn's gingerbread competition fills up fast and entry ceases when the posts are taken. The field isn't expanded, so start as soon as possible.
Step2
Enter local competitions. Whether the gingerbread competition is through the local parks and recreation department or a church, check into the low-key competitions and enter them for fun.
Step3
Start collecting goodies for the competition early. Read the rules for the particular competition. Most gingerbread competitions require only edible materials to be used on the house. Collect candy, dried goods, and other edible treats early in the year and keep an eye for unusual, tasty items.
Step4
Give yourself 3 months to complete your gingerbread house. Keep the assembled house in a dry location since moisture will collapse the house. Take time to add details. Add trees and other fragile decorations after you arrive at the competition.
Step5
Deliver the gingerbread house to the competition within the time frame given. Show up early and watch out for running children who could knock over your creation. Consider transporting the house on a flat bed cart like a hotel dolly. Leave your gingerbread with the appropriate officials and go relax.
