If you've mastered water skis and are ready for a new challenge, consider wakeboarding. This activity requires a short, wide board with two rubber holds, one behind the other, for your feet. Let the boat pull you while you ride behind. You can learn a few different ways to wakeboard and become a master trickster on the water.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Watch other wakeboarders. A teacher can tell you all the right moves, but if you can't picture them, they may be hard to duplicate. Find friends who are proficient on the wakeboard and ask if you can tag along in the boat. Offer to drive while they board.

  2. Step 2

Start with two skis. Use traditional water skis first to learn how to hold your arms and your knees to remain standing while the boat pulls you out of and up onto the water. You'll learn what it feels like to be pulled, an experience you can transfer to the wakeboard.

  3. Step 3

Hold the jump rope, make sure your feet are secure on the board and sit low in the water when the boat begins to move. Keep your knees and arms bent. Make sure that your driver is familiar with wakeboarding. To get a good ride, the boat must move slower than when pulling water skiers.

  4. Step 4

Try, fall and try again. It wil take some getting used to the wakeboard and you're bound to fall. A patient driver will let you make many attempts until you get the knack of it.

  5. Step 5

Jump the wake and try other tricks once you've made it up. Getting up on your feet is the hardest part of wakeboarding. The tricks will come much easier and quicker once you can get it up on every first try.
