Step 1
Measure your bust or chest. To do this, wrap a tape measure under your arms and around the fullest part of your bust. Wear your bra while measuring your bust. Keep the measuring tape taut, but not overly tight. Your bust measurement will typically determine your shirt or jacket size.
-
Step 2
Place the tape measure around the narrowest part of your waist to determine your waist measurement. Don't pull the measuring tape too tight, or you won't get a good fit.
-
Step 3
Hold the tape measure around the fullest portion of your hips. Refer to the sizing guide for the clothing you wish to purchase when measuring your hips. Various designers instruct you to measure your hips in different places, such as low hip or high hip.
-
Step 4
Some plus size pants come in short, regular and tall lengths. To determine which pants length is right for you, measure your inseam. Remove your shoes for an accurate measurement. Run a tape measure from your crotch down to your foot.
-
Step 5
Consider your bicep measurement. Some plus size clothing designers, such as Old Navy, use the bicep measurement to fit customers for plus size shirts. Wrap a tape measure wrapped around the fullest part of your upper arm to determine your bicep measurement.
