How to Install Monitor Drivers

Many computer monitor purchases are made after you see some particular feature of the display that attracts you. Maybe it's the resolution of the monitor, or maybe the size. It would be very disappointing to get it home and find it won't give you the same performance you had seen at the store. But remember: Monitor manufacturers provide a driver for each particular monitor, and this can affect performance.

Step1

Locate the driver for your model number of monitor. A CD arrives packed in the monitor box when you buy a new monitor. If you didn't receive a driver disk you can locate one on the website of the manufacturer. There will be versions of the driver for many operating systems and you will need to pick the one that matches your computer. Hardware manufacturers produce both signed and unsigned drivers. The difference is that using signed drivers ensures that the operating system manufacturer has approved the driver for your monitor to work properly with both the operating system and monitor. Just because it is unsigned doesn't mean that it won't work, but be aware you may have problems.

Step2

Unplug your computer and monitor from the power socket. Connect the new monitor to the computer and start it up again. During the initial loading of drivers, your system will most likely detect the new monitor. It will prompt you to insert the driver disk and click "OK." Insert the disk and select the particular model number of your new monitor.

Step3

Wait for the monitor driver installation. Now check and see that the monitor you chose is in fact the driver the computer is using. Open the "Control Panel" and then select the "System" icon. Open the program and click on the "Hardware" tab. The monitor you just installed will appear on the list and display the manufacture name and model of display listed as details.
