Step 1
Set your goals. In order to form habits for success in any field, you must first know what success looks like for you. It may be becoming the CEO of a particular company for one woman, and for the next it may be obtaining a PhD and passing their knowledge onto others.
-
Step 2
Choose two habits that can allow you to reach your goals. Instead of trying to make every change you need at once, pick and choose a couple at a time and work on those by themselves. This makes the process much easier. Begin with easier habits like being more of a team player at work or being more proactive with your career goals.
-
Step 3
Set a routine for yourself. It takes almost a month to permanently form habits, and to be a success you must set a routine and stick to it. Whether you are setting timing goals for reading, writing, researching, studying or working on a project, you have to set the routine, adhere to it no matter what your obstacles are and form the habits for success in 3 to 4 weeks time.
-
Step 4
Keep your momentum going. Once you are successful with those two habits, start on two more. This can be helped by keeping a success journal of each habit as you form it. Form the habit of learning from every mistake you make, and the mistakes of your co-workers and peers. Another habit of successful people is pure hard work. This habit is a bit hard, but as you form the goals in your mind, the passion to work harder to achieve them may become easier to handle.
-
Step 5
Believe in yourself every step of the way. Doubt and fear can creep up on even the most successful person in any field. Push these feelings aside, and continue to push yourself. For every failure, there needs to be a lesson learned. Take that lesson into your next step for success.
-
Step 6
Look up to the right people. Be it a very successful friend, colleague, giant in your field or anyone that inspires you move forward through the bad times. By surrounding yourself with these people, and using their example to drive you, you can form habits for success and use them to be your best.
