The arm chop is one of the most effective take downs in wrestling. By getting your opponent in a position where his weight is focused on one arm while on his knees, you can quickly take him down and move on to a pin. Like many wrestling moves, the mechanics are simple. The difficult part comes from your vision and determination to take your opponent to the mat.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Headgear
  • Wrestling mat
  • Wrestling partner
  1. Step 1

Get a wrestling partner on the mat. Practice the move by starting out in the go-behind position, wrapping your right arm around your partner's waist.

  2. Step 2

Extend your right arm around your partner, until you can grasp the far side of his rib cage. Be sure your grip is tight so that the opponent will not slip out of the hold when the match starts.

  3. Step 3

Place your weight on the opponent's back, keeping your arm locked tight around the ribcage.

  4. Step 4

Strike the inner elbow of your opponent with the hard part of your left thumb. For this move to work, you have to force the opponent to shift his weight and balance to this particular arm. The thumb strike will collapse the opponent into the mat once his elbow bends and his weight is taken to the mat.

  5. Step 5

Move into a pin once the opponent is on the mat.
