Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art form that is becoming a popular relaxing form of exercise. While it was originally intended as a form of self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into more of a meditative dance practice. It is highly recommended for seniors and for those people who are healing from injuries. Stretching and flexibility movements can be helpful for athletes and anyone who leads a stressful life.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an instructor at a local senior center, community center and YMCA and YWCA groups. Classes are very low-key and geared toward every kind of fitness level. You should be able to find one class that suits your needs.

  2. Step 2

Use a therapeutic Tai Chi instructor recommended by your physician or healthcare provider if you have any major health issues. You will need someone trained in CPR, for example if you just had a heart attack or if you have heart disease. Someone who will not push the students beyond their capabilities and risk injury from falls should teach frail seniors.

  3. Step 3

Look for signs and postings in your local health food store. Tai chi instructors often advertise through alternative sources such as health food stores and alternative medicine clinics and magazines.

  4. Step 4

Ask your masseuse or yoga instructor to recommend a tai chi class in your area. They are very much aligned in their training and their clients often overlap. There's good chance you can get a decent referral.
