How to Use a Movie Projector

DVDs and Blue Ray discs are the current ways we watch movies at home. These are great for today's movies with all of the special visual and sound effects. But older movies may not feel the same as watching them projected onto the large movie screen. You can have that feeling at home by playing movies on a home projector.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Thread the Film Manually Through the Projector (Older Projectors)

  1. Step 1

    Place the film around the wheels.

  2. Step 2

    Thread the film through the gate.

  3. Step 3

    Pull the thread through the various spindles and guides.

  4. Auto-load a More Recent Projector

  5. Step 1

    Insert the film into the proper spot of the projector.

  6. Step 2

    Turn the spinning wheel on to grab the film and load it through the rest of the projector.

  7. Step 3

    Stop the machine and attach the film to the other reel.

  8. Step 4

    Turn auto-load off before playing the film.

  9. Play the Film

  10. Step 1

    Point the projector toward a blank, white wall or screen.

  11. Step 2

    Turn off all of the lights in the room so you can see the best quality of the movie.

  12. Step 3

    Turn the projector on and play the movie.

  13. Rewind the Film

  14. Step 1

    Shift the projector into the rewind position.

  15. Step 2

    Turn on the rewind switch.

  16. Step 3

    Turn off the rewind switch when the film is completely rewound.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can buy devices for your projector that allow you to switch from playing the movie to rewinding it
