Blemishes are a troublesome skin problem that most people deal with at some point. They can cause pain, redness and low self-esteem, especially if they appear on the face. While pimples and other skin irritations may seem difficult to deal with, you can get rid of them with proper treatment. Follow these strategies for the treatment of blemishes.

From Quick Guide: Treat Blemishes
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cleanse daily. It may seem like an obvious suggestion, but the simple act of keeping the areas of your skin that are prone to blemishes clean can go a long way toward the treatment of blemishes. Be sure to wash with a mild cleanser that is made for your skin type.

  2. Step 2

Use a toner after washing your skin. These liquid formulas, which you apply with a tissue or cotton ball, tighten the skin and get rid of any lingering dirt that may remain after cleansing.

  3. Step 3

Scrub your skin gently. Although you may be tempted to wash your skin vigorously in an attempt to scrub out pimples, this can actually irritate the skin further. Instead, wash lightly using your hands rather than a washcloth.

  4. Step 4

Monitor your diet. Certain foods can aggravate blemishes and cause slower healing times for pimples you currently have. Maintaining a healthy eating pattern helps keep your skin consistently clear.

  5. Step 5

Resist the urge to squeeze or pick at blemishes. It may be tempting to get rid of any whiteheads, but squeezing and picking pimples causes additional redness and can lead to scarring.

  6. Step 6

Consider a visit to the dermatologist. Blemishes are caused by many factors, and sometimes proper treatment involves medication or topical creams that must be prescribed by a doctor.
