Whether you have an unsightly patch of back hair or look like a character from "Planet of the Apes," hair removal is daunting when you're a man. There are so many options to choose from, it's hard to figure out which works best. Explore the possibilities and learn how to get rid of your unwanted body hair.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider back shavers. These work on your back, shoulders and buttocks. Use the foot-long, hinged handles to reach difficult areas all by yourself. Use them in the shower in the same manner that you use a back scrub brush. The results are temporary. Re-shave every few days to maintain the hair removal.

  2. Step 2

Try waxing. Go to a salon or day spa for hair removal. Waxes are typically soy-based used in conjunction with a creamy lotion. Thin cloth strips are layered over the wax. When the wax dries, the cloth strips are removed with a quick jerking motion. The hair is removed along with the cloth. It can be painful but the hair removal lasts longer than shaving. Repeat the waxing every 4 to 6 weeks for maintenance.

  3. Step 3

Explore depilatory creams. They work best on your chest, back, arms and legs. Apply a small amount of depilatory cream according to package instructions. Wait for the specified waiting period. Wipe away the depilatory cream along with your body hair. Results can vary. Some hair removal lasts from 1 week to several weeks.

  4. Step 4

Look into laser hair removal. Visit a dermatologist for laser hair removal treatments. During these treatments, a laser light is used to kill the hair root. Several sessions are often required to achieve complete hair removal. Laser hair removal usually has long-lasting results and usually costs several hundred dollars.

  5. Step 5

Get electrolysis. Electrolysis is the most permanent solution for hair removal. During electrolysis, a very slim needle is used to penetrate each hair shaft, killing the follicle with electricity. Once the follicle is gone, no hair will ever grow back there. Although permanent in nature, electrolysis is not always your best choice. The process is tedious, time-consuming and is not recommended for large or thick areas of hair.
