How to Install an Above Ground Swimming Pool Liner

Once you have the framework set for your above ground pool, you must install the liner. The liner holds the water inside of the pool and helps secure the framework. Many people choose to install their own liners themselves rather than pay for a professional installation. Above ground pool liners come in beaded and over lap styles. Choose the correct liner for your pool's construction.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Install an Over Lap Liner

Step1
Remove the liner from the box and unfold it so that it lays flat next to the pool. Smooth out any major wrinkles with your hands.
Step2
Remove the top coping rail from around the pool.
Step3
Ask a family member or friend to help you position the liner inside of the pool. Line up the liner's seams with the framework of the walls. Walk around the pool and pull the liner over the pool's edge. Leave just enough liner in the center so that it barely touches the ground.
Step4
Replace sections of the coping over the liner that drapes over the pool's edge. Secure them just enough to keep the liner from slipping.
Step5
Add water into the pool with a garden hose or other water source. Loosen the coping gradually as the water begins to tug at the liner.
Step6
Continue filling with water and repositioning the coping sections around the circumference of the pool until the water level is at least 6 inches deep.
Step7
Check that the seams are still in line and fasten the coping securely over the top rail. Fill the pool with water to halfway up the skimmer.

Install a Beaded Liner

Step1
Remove the liner from the box and unfold it so that it lays flat next to the pool. Smooth out any major wrinkles with your hands.
Step2
Ask a family member or a friend to help you place the liner inside of the pool.
Step3
Grab the beaded edge and snap it into the liner retainer on the top edge of the pool wall. Continue along the circumference of the pool.
Step4
Use a garden hose or other water source to fill the pool with water.
Step5
Smooth out the wrinkles as you fill the pool.
