Choose the kitchen counter tops that are best for you. Since many work tops come in pre-formed sizes, you may have to special order yours. You need to have a professional measure any corners that join so they fit properly when you install them.

Order backsplashes as well. If these are going to join at a corner, a professional should also measure them.

Put the backsplashes together. Use wood screws to secure the pieces.

Set the counter tops in place. Apply masking tape to any areas that need to be trimmed. Use a plane to shave away the work top so you can install it flush against the wall.

      • 6

Level the counters. Add shims as necessary. Make sure the drawers and cabinet doors open properly. Screw the work tops to the base cabinets from below. Use round head wood screws that go at least ½ inch into the core of the counter top.

Apply laminate adhesive to the end splash. Put it on the cut end of the work top. Hold it in place with a clamp until it's set.
