Instructions

    • 1

Mix one package of dry yeast with the warmed milk in a small bowl.

    • 2

Add 1 tbsp. of sugar to the yeast and milk mixture. Stir well to combine the ingredients and set the bowl aside.

    • 3

Combine the salt, flour and remaining sugar together in a large mixing bowl.

    • 4

Crack eggs into another small bowl. Remove any shell if necessary. Whisk the eggs well.

    • 5

Pour the eggs and the milk mixture into the dry ingredients from Step 3 and blend well.

    • 6

Put the softened butter into the mixture from Step 5. Cream the ingredients together using a spatula.

    • 7

Transfer the dough to another large bowl greased with cooking spray. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in the refrigerator for approximately 2 hours.

    • 8

Remove the risen dough from the refrigerator and break off a piece of the dough. Roll the dough out into a circular shape (no less than 1/8-inch thick). Continue making the dough rounds as you fry each piece to use up all the dough.

    • 9

Drop the dough into a large frying pan containing hot (360 degrees F) cooking oil and fry until dough appears golden brown. Flip the dough once during cooking to brown both sides.

    • 10

Drain the fried dough on a paper towel covered plate and sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the fried dough, if desired. Serve hot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Soften butter using a microwave or by leaving the butter out on a kitchen counter to warm it.

  • Make the fried dough rounds any size you like.

  • Be careful when working with hot oil to avoid burns.

  • Don't leave fried dough unattended while cooking.
