Watch for signs of withdrawal from activities and friends that she always enjoyed. A girl on drugs will find little use for anyone that doesn't have to do with using after a while. She will have little interest or energy to play sports or keep up with hobbies. She will spend more time alone in her room when not out with her new friends.

Talk to her at length about drugs in general and see what her attitude and reaction is when you discuss these issues with her. If she becomes overly defensive or combative, then you may have reason to worry. Explain to her that you love her and want to protect her from the dangers of drug abuse.

Notice mood swings that are stronger than normal. Girls on drugs may go from being very peppy and happy to severe depression in the span of a couple days. She may act very confident and self-assured one day and not be able to choose her clothes the next.

Check her room for drugs if you notice rapid weight loss in your young lady. Even if you discover that she has not been using drugs, you should be concerned about other problems such as anorexia or depression.

Look carefully at her friends. If they look like the types of kids who may be into drugs, it's very possible that they are. Ask to meet her friends and their families. Find out where they hang out and check up on her.

Ask her to take a drug test. In general, most experts recommend having a professional lab do the test, but you can use an at home drug test if you wish. Be aware that these home tests do have a margin of error, so don't be lulled by a "false negative" if your daughter seems to be acting strangely.
