Perhaps you've just built a new deck or patio, or your old one needs a little sprucing up. Furnishing and accessorizing that space is a great way to add extra square footage to your house. With a little work, you can create a deck that you'll never want to leave.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Clean the wood surfaces of the deck. You can find wood cleaning products at your local hardware store such as Lowe's or Home Depot. If you have a deck that's been around for a while, than you may want to reseal it after it's been cleaned.
Step2
Choose furniture which matches the style and personality of your deck. There is a wide variety of furniture options for almost any budget. Consider how much seating you will need, what other furniture you will need and how it will all fit on the deck or patio.
Step3
Decorate the poles and posts. You can use lattice panels to cover up the area between the floor of the deck and the ground. Acorn toppers and ball finials dress up plain posts.
Step4
Pick out smaller accessories such as birdhouses and wind chimes. If you will be using the deck at night than you might want to consider adding outdoor lighting or a fire pit. This is your chance to incorporate your personality and interests into the decoration of your deck or patio.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's a good idea to measure your deck and draw it to scale on a piece of graph paper before beginning. You can use small pieces of paper cut to scale to represent furniture which can be moved around on the paper until you find the perfect layout.
