Hang a straw hat turkey on your front door, and your Thanksgiving day guests will be smiling even before they smell dinner cooking. The cute little gobbler is a pleasure to make and requires only a few basic craft supplies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 craft straw hat
  • White paper
  • Red, orange, brown and yellow felt
  • White craft glue or glue gun
  • Popsicle sticks or pieces of stiff cardboard
  • Jute or hemp string
  • Ribbon
  1. Step 1

Draw a feather pattern on a piece of white paper. If you want more than one feather shape for your straw hat turkey, make patterns for those, too. Use the patterns to cut out felt feathers, alternating the colors.

  2. Step 2

Glue the feathers to the turkey, attaching them to the top, underside of the straw hat so the glued ends will be hidden. If your feathers are so big that they flop, glue Popsicle sticks or pieces of stiff cardboard to the back to make them stand up.

  3. Step 3

Cut a wattle from red felt and a triangular beak from orange or yellow felt and attach them to the middle of the straw hat with the top of the wattle glued under the bottom edge of the beak. Cut 2 small circles from black felt for the turkey's eyes and glue them to the straw hat above the beak.

  4. Step 4

Tie a piece of black ribbon in a bow and attach it on the brim of the straw hat under the turkey's face.

  5. Step 5

Cut two legs and feet with three toes each from yellow felt and glue them to the bottom of the hat.

  6. Step 6

Glue a piece of jute or hemp in a loop on the back of the turkey straw hat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Craft foam can be substituted for felt.
