Instructions

    • 1

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

    • 2

Place the egg white and sugar in a large mixing bowl and blend them together with an electric mixer set on medium speed. Beat in the freshly grated orange peel, almond extract and baking powder.

    • 3

Add the slivered almonds and all purpose flour and continue to mix on medium speed until the mixture is smooth.

    • 4

Cover the bowl and put it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours and no more than 24 hours.

    • 5

Flour your hands and take out a piece of dough about the size of a golf ball. Roll the dough into a rope about 8 inches long. Separate that rope into two pieces, and shape each piece into another 8-inch rope.

    • 6

Pinch the ends of the ropes and form into bone shapes. Continue making skeleton bones with the remainder of the cookie dough.

    • 7

Butter 3 large cookie sheets and dust them lightly with flour. Place the skeleton bones on the cookie sheets with about an inch between each bone, and bake them for about 20 minutes, until the bottom of the skeleton bones turns golden brown. Allow the skeleton bones to cool on wire racks.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make dry bones, powder the cooled skeleton bones lightly with powdered sugar.
