How to Use Microsoft ActiveSync

As society becomes more technologically advanced, there are more conveniences that ease your life. The step from a plain cell phone to a smaller version of your computer is a small but necessary one. Microsoft's ActiveSync software allows you to plug into your computer to update your appointments, contacts and to-do list automatically and frees up the time it would take to transfer that information manually.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the file from Microsoft's website, or install it directly from the CD that came with your pocket PC. Follow all of the installation instructions, and connect your phone to your computer when you're prompted.

    • 2

Click "Next" on the setup wizard to create a sync relationship between the computer and your phone. If you're setting up a sync with an exchange server, check the box for it. Otherwise, leave it blank.

    • 3

Check the boxes for the information that you want to synchronize with your phone. If you have multiple sources, select the different sources from the drop-down menus next to each check box. Otherwise, leave them all on "Windows PC."

    • 4

Choose "Next" on the window that says "Completing the Pocket PC Sync Setup Wizard." The following screen shows your phone synchronizing. When it's done, click "Finish." Repeat this step every time you need to sync your phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Microsoft's ActiveSync is for use with Window's operating systems up to and including Windows XP. It doesn't work with Windows Vista. You must use Windows Mobile Sync Center.
