French braids are more elaborate in that intricate weaving begins higher on the head and closer to the scalp than straight braids. Cover the head in mini braids and leave them in for an extended period of time to create micro braids. Clipping straight or micro braids on top of the head creates an up-do hairstyle with braids and braids with no specific style are sloppy braids.
