An emergency solar power kit makes an excellent addition to any emergency kit. Although they do not supply enough power to heat your house, you may be able to charge your cell phone or save enough power to run a few lights during the night. They are fairly lightweight and store easily.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Determine why you need the emergency power kit. Once you know what you plan to use it for, and where you plan to store it, then you will be able to choose the one that is right for you.
Step2
Look for a model that has a 12 volt battery adapter. This means that you can use your car battery adapter to charge your cell phone using the power kit. This offers the most flexibility in what you choose to power. Consider purchasing the Solar Power Pac II or the Global P3-55 W power pack.
Step3
Consider how many items you will need to power or the number of places you want to have a kit available. If you buy more than one you may be able to find a discounted price on each one. You may want to store one in each car and have few at home.
Step4
Shop around for the best price. Generally you will need to look online for this specialty item.
Step5
Test the kits when you receive them. This will prevent a broken kit from leaving you stranded. Be sure to read the store's return and shipping policies in case there is a problem with your order.
Step6
Store the kits in convenient places you can access during a power failure.
