Some people smoke because they think it makes them look cool. Others smoke to relax or because they are addicted to it. Many people only smoke when they are out with others and they are drinking. Whatever your reason for smoking, the following will explain how to smoke a cigarette.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a pack of cigarettes. Alternatively, bum a cigarette from someone you know.

  2. Step 2

Put the cigarette into your mouth. It is best to start with a filtered cigarette--as you may get the tobacco in your mouth if the cigarette is unfiltered and this can leave a bad taste.

  3. Step 3

Find matches or a lighter. If you use matches, make sure you learn how to strike a match before you try to light your cigarette. To strike a match you need to hold the match between your thumb and forefinger, and strike it against the striker on the matches. Practice lighting a match before you try to light your cigarette. Using a lighter is easier, especially if you are trying to light a cigarette on a windy day.

  4. Step 4

Hold the light to your cigarette and suck in a few times. The cigarette should light.

  5. Step 5

Holding the cigarette between your forefinger and middle finger, place the cigarette in your mouth. With your lips closed around the cigarette, draw air through the cigarette using your mouth, then exhale. In between puffs, you can hold the cigarette as described or place it in the ashtray.

  6. Step 6

Tap the cigarette on the ashtray to get rid of the ashes or they will drop wherever.

  7. Step 7

Smoke the cigarette, blowing the smoke out of your mouth or nose. You can even learn to blow smoke rings to impress others.

  8. Step 8

When the cigarette is done put it out by grinding the cigarette into the ashtray until the burning is extinguished.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to light the unfiltered end of the cigarette.
  • Nicotine is physically and mentally addictive. Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds after inhaling. You should stop smoking if you feel you are becoming addicted to nicotine.
