Few things are as disheartening as finding your cherished pool cue no longer screws back together just when you need it most. The joint that connects the cues butt can wear down, fall out or simply work itself free of the cue on either end. Fortunately, there is no need to take it for repair or worse, throw it away when you can replace a pool cue butt by yourself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the cue to ensure that you have all of the parts. Replacement parts are easy to find at your local pool cue dealer if anything is missing.

  2. Step 2

Mix a small amount of cold-weld compound until it is a consistent color and texture. Mixing on a glass surface lets you see the mixture well and the compound won't easily adhere to glass.

  3. Step 3

Use a flat toothpick to spread the cold-weld compound inside the hole the insert fell out of.

  4. Step 4

Coat the outside of the insert lightly with the cold-weld compound.

  5. Step 5

Press the insert into the hole by hand and twist gently to ensure it seats properly.

  6. Step 6

Wait 30 minutes and screw the cue together gently. Verify the cue is straight and make any final adjustments as necessary.

  7. Step 7

Unscrew the cue when the alignment is correct. Allow the cue to set for 24 hours before using.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always remove any excess cold-weld compound as quickly as possible with a towel to avoid damage to the cue.
  • Work quickly with the cold-weld compound, it will be unusable after 15 minutes if not applied.
