Step 1
Choose a specialty acrylic glue for crystal by considering the size of the crack and whether it needs to be water or heat resistant. Make sure the glue dries clear to ensure an invisible repair.
-
Step 2
Use the glue sparingly. Keep a cloth on hand to wipe away any excess. Allow it to dry completely.
-
Step 3
File any chips near the crack with a black emery board. Focus the emery board on the chipped and cracked area to avoid scratching the other parts of the crystal bowl.
-
Step 4
Contact a professional glass or crystal restorer in order to make the bowl watertight again. In most cases professionals will advise using the bowl for display only rather than for serving food.
-
Step 5
Create a new shape for your bowl if the cracks are near the edges. A professional can grind the crystal rims to remove the cracked area, then beveled and polished to save the purpose of the bowl.
-
Step 6
Consider repurposing your crystal bowl if it can't be restored to its original use. You can glue together a bowl broken in several pieces and use it as a lampshade, for example. Another option is to simply use it as a pleasing centerpiece display.
