How to File an AARP Health Insurance Claim Form

Health insurance makes paying for your health care much easier, but if your doctor's office does not file your health insurance claims for you, you will need to do it yourself. This is more likely to happen if you use a doctor that is out-of-network on your policy.

Write down the date that you submit each bill to AARP on a piece of paper and attach it to the bill. File this in a file specifically for health insurance information.

      • 4

Complete any forms that your insurance may require. This may vary as AARP offers several health insurance options.

      • 5

Mail your claim into AARP. You can find the address and additional health insurance claim information in the resources section.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Inform your doctor that you have filed the claim. Although when you file the claim the check is often sent to you, you may want to check with AARP to find out if they will send the check to you or the doctor. If they send it to you, pay the doctor with the money.

    • Check your explanation of benefits forms to see what the insurance covers and what portion of the bill you are responsible for. This will help you to pay the correct amount to the doctor. Remember that often the insurance companies have a contracted amount that the doctor can charge a patient. This means that a portion of what the doctor charges will be discounted, and then you will owe the remaining amount after insurance pays.
