How to Get a Job as a UPS Package Handler
United Parcel Service hires package handlers at its hubs, processing centers and retail outlets across the country. The company offers a competitive benefits package and terrific education opportunities, even for part-time employees. View available positions with United Parcel Service. Review the requirements for each available position and noting that lifting is a significant part of the job. (See Resources)

Note that most positions are part-time and night shift, which works overnight, approximately 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Complete the online application and submit it. Schedule a face-to-face interview. Expect to wait up to four weeks following the interview for a job offer. Accept the position and complete all the pertinent paperwork and background check.

Report to training as instructed. Dress as required in comfortable clothing and sturdy work boots. Wear light clothing in the summer and layers in the winter.

Study and memorize company policies as required, haz-mat procedures and "Hot States." Be prepared to gain a general overview of all areas of package handling as well as the specifics of the assigned area.

Stretch and warm up before and after every shift as before and after a workout. Show up to work on time and abide the dress regulations at all time, especially footwear. Work diligently and look forward to advancing quickly.

Expect to have a Teamsters' Union initiation fee of $100 deducted in $20 increments over the first five weekly pay checks. Pay union dues monthly after the initiation fee is complete.
