Muay Thai boxing uses several points of contact during fighting. Fighters learn to use their hands, shins, elbows, and knees to attack their opponents and must constantly think of ways to attack while still protecting themselves. They learn how each move makes them vulnerable and it focuses on constant fighting and movement.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Muay Thai sparring equipment pads and blockers
  • Muay Thai boxing gloves
  1. Step 1

Review the footwork that you have learned in Muay Thai training so far. This will allow you to warm up. Then review the hand moves.

  2. Step 2

Plan out a routine of moves that you will use in practice. Start with fast hand and arm techniques, then use your legs and then your feet. Remember that fluidity and constant motion help you to best your opponent.

  3. Step 3

Practice the combinations by yourself without sparring. Become comfortable with the moves. You need to easily adjust between footwork and your hands. Practice shifting your weight to make sure that your punches stay effective.

  4. Step 4

Try the combination against an instructor wearing pads. This will allow you to adjust your movements when hitting weight. Focus on your balance and your constant motion. Watch for the areas where you leave yourself vulnerable.

  5. Step 5

Spar with an opponent to finish learning the technique. You may want to start out in practice rather than competition when you are learning this technique.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan out several combinations and work on them before you begin fighting. You may begin to string the combinations together as you master the training. You will want to have several combinations before you begin to spar with others.
  • Training and working on the combinations will help you when you fight, your body will begin to respond naturally to the movements and the fighting and you will become a stronger fighter.
